Link Roundup: Hiring Freelance Writers, Exposing Yourself & Social Noise

By: Wednesday, December 14, 2011
Just another amazing Wednesday link roundup from our internet friends:

What to Look for in Freelance Writers
If you're considering hiring freelance writers for your blog, Joe Pulizzi's post is a must read.  I also cannot stress enough Joe's ending message, TEST.  Test every freelancer with a small engagement upfront to make sure both the content and communication levels meet your needs.

The Trap of Social Media Noise
Seth Godin describes the pitfalls of focusing on vanity metrics. I've seen Compendium clients fall into this trap on occasion. Not only does it waste your time, but it wastes your brand power.

The 6 Stages of Exposing Yourself with Content Marketing
Jay Baer recaps a Blog World LA presentation he did with Joe Pulizzi.  They describe six degrees of "openness" that a company's content marketing strategy may use.  I'm glad they acknowledge that there is no right stage for every company.  However, it's critical that content marketers and bloggers are aware of which strategy they're focused on.  Bouncing between stages can lead to both internal and external confusion.
