4 Ways to Motivate Employees to Write Content
By Clayton Stobbs Director of Account Management
Even if you work at a Content Marketing company like we do here at Compendium, it can be difficult to sit down and come up with something to write about, promote or develop. If, in addition to writing content, you manage a team of those involved in writing, it be can be even more daunting to keep your content consistent and high quality in nature -- but it does not have to be! Below are some quick tips for making content creation easier and ways to motivate your employees to continue writing:
-
Create a Content Calendar: Knowing what content needs to be written and when is very helpful in keeping a team on task. For instance, here at Compendium we assign post to everyone within the company, specific departments and guest writers to make sure we have days covered throughout the month.
-
Create an "Ideas Board": Sometimes it can be difficult to come up with ideas or other times, the post assigned to an author may not be what they really want to write about. So, create a board, Google doc, painting etc. of the ideas your team can write about.
-
Create Incentives: Sometimes all we really need is that little extra push to keep things interesting. If you can, arrange a contest once per month that awards the top blogger. Or, provide lunch for the entire team if everyone is able to finish their scheduled post in time. If budget is an issue, think about letting people leave an hour of two early during the week if they write a piece of content that helps the company a lot.
-
Understand the Value of Content: One of the biggest motivating factors may be the simple need to understand "why do we need to write content and promote it?" Telling employees what their content means and the value it provides to the business can be a great way to get them motivated.
Overall, keeping employees motivated does not have to be difficult and making sure your content is fresh, high quality and useful is a key part of the content marketing puzzle. If you're looking for additional resources on content marketing, check out:
