I'm asked this question quite a bit & actually saw it on LinkedIn today. Most of the answers talked about success being 'subscribers' or 'comments'. I wanted to add a dose of reality to the discussion…..
In your opinion, what is the single most important component of a successful blog?
Understand that the idea of a "reader" is a myth. For most blogs especially business blogs, 80% of all traffic is coming from a first time visitor. Even the best social media gurus are getting in the high 65% range of their traffic from first time visitors. Most of this traffic is coming from search. So what makes business blogging a success? Start with your keyword research. look at what keywords you are interested in and qualified to target. Title your blogs based on keywords and make sure you narrowly focus your content around those keywords.

They are happy. Don't confuse what your goal is. Lots of talk about meaningful engagement out there. Meaningful engagement in business still means making a customer or prospect happy. 9 times out of 10 you make them happy by solving their problem...the reason they found you in the first place.
