The Importance of Correct Link-Building

By Allison Bowen Account Manager, Online Marketing

Link BuildingIf you're a Compendium client, it's incredibly likely that you've had linking conversations with your Account Manager.  Linking is something that's incredibly important and can help you get the search traffic you want to see.  Hopefully, you also listen to us when we explain that you need the right kind of links.  A recent New York Times article uncovering the link-building JC Penney's was doing provides a great look at why the right type of link-building is so important.

Because the company (or rather, their SEO firm) was doing inappropriate link-building, Google ultimately black listed them and now it's nearly impossible to find a JC Penney product appear on the first page of search.

While it's unlikely that the New York Times may choose to target your company specifically and bring you in front of Matt Cutts, it's still incredibly important that you make sure you're practicing the correct type of link-building.

With Compendium, one great way to build those important links is through products like ours that allow for easy story harvesting.  Your customers can submit their story via our web-to-post feature and you can publish it live.  Then, they'll want to link back to their own story - whether it be through their blog, website, etc.  And voila!  You're getting those crucial links properly - because people actually want to link to you, and it makes sense for them to do so.

This isn't the only way that Compendium can help you with your social media marketing.  Check out www.compendium.com to learn more about what we've got to offer!  And if you are a current customer - be careful with those links!
